Our
Story

As a former professional athlete and qualified personal trainer, I know how hard it is to attain and maintain a high level of fitness. It’s essential to stay challenged and motivated, which is where a lot of us fall down.

Boxing provides a full-body workout where every session requires you to be totally present. It challenges you physically in different ways, and builds mental strength, confidence and a sense of calm like nothing else.  

We opened Studio Box in 2019, with a method that celebrates all the benefits of boxing in a super motivating environment. Our goal was to give boxing to the everyday person, in a welcoming, positive and non-intimidating way. We wanted each guest to walk out the door on a physical and emotional high.

Since opening, our curated combination of high-energy boxing, paired with strength and conditioning, has achieved those goals. We’ve also opened a second studio in Downtown Auckland. But most importantly, we’ve developed more than a boutique fitness experience - we’ve grown a community. And we’re just getting started.

What is a Studio Box class like?

The Studio Box workout has been created to maximise your fitness potential. Pumping sounds and choreographed lighting stimulate the senses and keep you on your toes.
Studio Box will pit you against your fiercest opponent – yourself. Push yourself to limits you didn’t know you were capable of in this non-contact class. We’ll help you keep getting fitter and stronger, in under an hour. Some of the country’s finest instructors will guide you from a dynamic warm-up, through ten rounds of boxing-inspired fitness and strength training, to a restorative cool down.

I’ve never boxed before; will I be able to keep up?

Our workouts are designed to allow everyone to go at their own pace. We'll teach you everything you need to know.

Is there a beginner class?

No, but all of our classes are suitable for beginners. Trainers offer modifications for all of the exercises we do, so there are options for all levels. We also offer private coaching if you’d like to learn some one-on-one technique before you step into a class setting, but it’s certainly not a prerequisite.

Where is the best parking?

In Newmarket, it's first in, first-served for the Studio Box allocated car parks, but there is plenty of parking on nearby Melrose Street, Crowhurst Street and Teed Street.In the City, there is a Wilson carpark building next door and street parking available.

Do you have lockers?

Yes, lockers are available in both changing rooms and the transition area. No need to bring a lock, each locker has a built-in lock.

Do you have water or should I bring my own?

We do sell water at the front desk, but if you’d prefer to bring your own water bottle, we also have a filling station available in our transition space.

How old do you have to be to take a class?

13 years old or older.

Do you offer corporate events or private classes for groups?

Yes! Contact us and we’ll send through all of the information you’ll need about hosting your next corporate outing at our place, from booking details to how we can create bespoke experiences especially for you. Email contact@studio-box.co.

Do I need to create an account to book a spot?

Yes, you will need to create an account before booking a spot.

Do I have to buy a package or a membership?

No. You can purchase a single class or multi-class package. We also offer a 'new guest' special to those who are new to Studio Box. 

Can I book online?

Absolutely. Create an account online and then buy some classes or a membership package. After that, you can go ahead and reserve your spot online.

What options do I have for buying classes?

We have two options available - you can buy class packages or sign up for a membership. As you'd expect, the more you commit, the more you save.

Membership will have you reach your goals faster because you've made that commitment. Packages are best if you want to keep it casual.

Can I transfer or share my class package or membership?

Absolutely! Class packages can be transferred to another guest. Memberships, however, are non-transferable.

When do classes become available to book online?

Seven days of classes are always available for booking.

How does the waitlist work?

If the class you want to attend is full, you can join a waitlist. As people cancel, you will be automatically added in the order that you signed up. After the 8-hour mark, we will call you if we are able to secure you a spot in the class. We can only hold the spot if we're able to reach you; otherwise, we will release it to the next guest on the waitlist. That said we always encourage waitlisted guests to come to the studio, as we are often able to get guests in on a walk-in basis.

What is your cancellation policy?

All we ask is that if you are not going to be able to make the class, you cancel at least 8 hours prior. This allows us to make sure someone else gets that bag if you can’t make it! Anything cancelled less than 8 hours before class starts is a late cancel, and you do forfeit the class.

What if I miss a class?

If you book a class and don’t show up, you will lose your class credit. 

Can I move my booking?

If you are outside the 8-hour no-cancellation window, you can always move to another class (that’s not already sold out). If you would like to attempt a same day switch, which is permitted without losing a credit (subject to availability), please email us at contact@studio-box.co.

When should I arrive?

We recommend arriving at the studio 15 minutes before a class for check-in.

What do I do when I get there?

Come introduce yourself to us at the front desk and mention that it is your first time. We’ll make sure one of our team shows you around and that you’re well taken care of.

What if I’m running late?

To ensure that you don’t lose your spot to someone on the waitlist, please arrive at least five minutes prior to the start of your class. To be respectful of others, there will be no entry five minutes after the class has started.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to sweat. A lot! Complimentary workout towels are provided for exactly that reason.

Do I need special footwear?

Most guests wear everyday cross-trainers, and boxing shoes are acceptable but not necessary. Please note shoes MUST be worn; bare feet are absolutely not allowed in the studio room.

Do you have showers?

We do. There are multiple showers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Towels, hair dryers, styling tools and bath and body products are also provided.

Are our classes good for you?

A Studio Box class is HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), strength training, conditioning, and cardio all in one - making it an incredible total body workout. The combination of cardio and strength training will allow you to burn calories without bulking up. Our aqua bags reduce the impact on your joints, and the shape increases trainer visibility so that you'll never feel lost during class. During exercise endorphins are released, meaning after our class you’ll walk out feeling happier too!

Why should I choose Studio Box?

Our workouts keep your body guessing, making it nearly impossible to hit a weight loss plateau, and even less likely for you to get bored. The back and forth between aerobic and anaerobic exercise means you're training on an entirely new level.
